Illinois Saint Andrews Society Highland Games and Scottish Festival


2008 AGM to be Held in Chicago Area!

 Mark your calendars clan members for the Clan MacIntyre annual gathering and meeting to be held June 20th and 21st 2008 during the Illinois Saint Andrews Society Annual Highland Games and Scottish Festival at the Oak Brook Polo Field in Oakbrook, Illinois (25 minutes west of Chicago).  The hotel that we have chosen is the Courtyard by Marriot of Elmhurst which is a 15 minute drive to the games and is an excellent hotel.  More information to come in your next issue of Per Ardua but for now, here is a quick glance at what’s going on:

 Friday, June 20th

  • Council meeting in afternoon at hotel
  • Hospitality suite available in the late afternoon and evening including light refreshments and drinks.

 Saturday, June 21st

  • Highland games and festival at Polo Field all day. Festival includes:
    • Championship-level dance competition for all levels and ages
    • 20+ different pipe bands in attendance for a spectacular march
    • A pipe band competition
    • Approx. 40 different vendors (filling 2 huge tents plus many smaller tents) selling everything from Welsh cakes, Scottish trinkets and homemade tartan fabric
    • Rugby matches
    • Caber toss
    • Exciting entertainment (last year Mother Grove was the big band!)
    • British cars on display to ogle
    • Whiskey tasting
    • Shortbread baking competition
    • Sheepdog contests
    • Lots of Scottish (and not so Scottish) food vendors
  • Clan MacIntyre tent (amongst the clan tents at festival)-plan to stop by and take a load off under the shade of the MacIntyre tent and enjoy free refreshments and good company
  • Buffet dinner for all clan members and their guests at hotel in evening
  • Scottish entertainment during dinner

 Reservations and all payments for hotel rooms will be taken directly through hotel and all dinner reservations for Saturday night will be taken by Donald McIntyre of Homewood, Illinois.  Please see Per Ardua for reservations form as well as more information on the games and meeting.
